The other day I started thinking about what it is I really need.
After dismissing the first few things that came to mind (like sleep, a nap, and more time to close my eyes) I landed on this one thing:
Not happiness, not stuff, not more money (although all of those things would be nice) . . . just more joy.
Joy in the day-to-day.
Joy in each moment.
Joy even in the not so great moments.
Because I don't want to look back at this time in my life and see a miserable mom.
And I don't want my children to think that the sacrifices required to be the kind of mom I want to be make a woman miserable.
So how does a mom grab on to more joy and hold it tight?
"It's sweaty work—manual labor of the most intense kind because it requires more than just body. Mothering demands body, soul, mind, and heart." Hope for the Weary Mom: Where God Meets You in Your Mess
In the pouring out we often find ourselves running on empty and lacking that everlasting joy God says is ours just because we're His. But tucked inside of scripture there are two small verses that hold the key . . .
". . . the joy of the Lord is your strength. . . " Nehemiah 8:10
"You make known to me the path of life; in your presence there is fullness of joy; at your right hand are pleasures forevermore." Psalm 16:11
If the joy of the Lord is our strength, and fullness of joy is found in His presence, we have to run to Him.
And it's not so hard to get in His presence, because if He is the God who is Emmanuel—God with us—then by definition He is with us. We might ask Him to come running, but in reality mama, He's already there, just waiting on you to ask Him for the things He says are already yours.
In March of 2014, I'll have the privilege of speaking to a group of moms at the Raising Generations Today conference in New York. Our theme? Hope. If you need some mama, plan to join us. Here's a little more information about the conference.
Raising Generations Today is an annual conference designed to equip and inspire moms to reach the hearts of their children for the glory of God. Through providing valuable resources, inspirational speakers, practical teaching materials, and the connection of moms in every season of parenting, Raising Generations Today will offer hope to women so that they may embrace and thrive in their roles as moms.
I'm so excited to tell you that you can enter to win one ticket to the Raising Generations Today conference! Use the Rafflecopter below to enter. I'm praying for God to choose just the right person, a mama who needs an extra dose of hope and joy, to join us! Sweet blessings!
